The name Catherine Hinds has been synonymous with skin care for over four decades. As Boston's original esthetician and a pioneer in the field of esthetics, she has been instrumental in educating and positioning the American Esthetician as a primary force in skin care. She began her career by establishing a chain of skin care salons in Boston and New York in the late sixties and early seventies.
In 1979, after successfully lobbying to create separate licensing for estheticians in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Ms. Hinds founded the first accredited esthetics school in the country, the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics. At the same time she opened the doors to Catherine Hinds Manufacturing (renamed Catherine Hinds Company, in 2011), a direct response to the esthetician's need for quality professional supplies.
Nationally recognized for her work, Ms. Hinds has received numerous honors including the New England Women's Business Owners, Woman of the Year Award, American Salon Owner's Esthetician of the Year Award and the prestigious Dermascope Magazine Legend Award. However she takes the greatest pride, in the fact that she has encouraged hundreds of women to start businesses for themselves.
In 2001 Catherine Hinds retired, yet unable to squelch her entrepreneurial drive, she created and founded the Catherine Hinds American Skin Care & Spa and the Bed & Breakfast at the Spa in up-state New York. In May of 2001, the Catherine Hinds Institute transitioned to her daughter, An G. Hinds in the true spirit of family business successions. An currently owns and runs the Institute as its President & CEO, and continues to support the values by which the company was founded.
