About the Institute
Catherine Hinds was the Founder of the Catherine Hinds Institute, established in 1977. As an early advocate of a simple skincare routine, Catherine opened Cyclax of London, a heritage beauty salon from the UK, in her hometown of Boston in 1965 (which was later renamed to Catherine Hinds, in 1967). She pioneered exfoliation as part of your at-home routine with her famous “grains” which were one of the first-to-market, manual exfoliators.
Catherine was an early female beauty entrepreneur – an unfamiliar term for those times. Wanting to spread her knowledge and offer financial opportunity to others, she developed a highly in-depth training program that looked at skin care scientifically, always believing that it should be a part of your wellness routine – much like medical care or dental hygiene. Accredited in 1979 by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), the Catherine Hinds Institute has been responsible for training and placing nearly ten thousand trained, skilled, and licensed estheticians, earning Catherine multiple accolades and awards including the ACCSC School of Excellence and School of Distinction Awards.
Catherine’s daughter, An G. Hinds took over the Institute in 2001. An G. Hinds continues to modernize curriculum with cutting-edge treatments, science, advanced technologies, and equipment – carrying on her mother’s legacy of entrepreneurship.
An’s daughter and Catherine’s granddaughter, Rachel A. Hinds Liverman is the third generation of skincare pioneers, reinventing skin care treatments with a completely new and customized approach with her concept studios, Glowbar™, in New York and Connecticut.
The extensive curriculum and dedication of the team at the Catherine Hinds Institute ensures graduates are prepared to obtain licensure, skills, and business knowledge that allows them the potential to become entrepreneurs themselves.
